THE CHALLENGE
National Arts Strategies had outgrown the basic text based design of their current web site and the limited functionality it offered. We partnered with Design-Nut (a local design firm) and began to tackle the interface design, content management, and backend tasks together. One primary goal of the project was to create a system for NAS to update their seminar offerings internally.
THE SOLUTION
It was important to the client to be able to edit the copy on any page in their site and wanted to add new pages as necessary. We created four HTML template pages based on Design-Nut's page design using Macromedia's Dreamweaver. Every page in this 50 page site is controlled by one of the four template layouts, shown on the right. We used CSS to control the design and layout of each page, and implemented page id tags to the control background images behind the logo and for the larger page. We setup Macromedia's Contribute for the client to use as a browser-based interface for editing the copy of the site. Contribute has a sophisticated "check-out" system that prevents multiple people from editing the same page at the same time, and was perfect for the daily updates to NAS's web site.
