THE CHALLENGE
While I was the Senior New Media Designer at Supon Design Group, the George
Washington University Admissions Dept. requested we create a unique CD-ROM.
The CD would be sent out to prospective high school students in place of the
familiar VHS tape. The CD needed to include all of the information the tape
and brochure does, and it needed to have something extra. That extra was what
we delivered.
THE SOLUTION
We worked with G.W.U. to create a CD-ROM interface that would play the admissions
video (produced by and outside video company), display a PDF of the application
for that year, provide web links to frequently updated content, and allow
the prospective students to download a screen saver to their computer. The
CD was a cross platform effort that would check for the required Quicktime
Player and Adobe
Acrobat® Reader® Plugin before running. If the necessary components
were not on that computer, the CD instructed the prospective student on how
to install them. The CD-ROM was a great success among the students and won
an ADDY in 2002. The project is also featured in Supon Design Group's
book See
